I understand you wanted to write about those platforms you’ve used yourself, but for anyone else who is pondering a blog host I’d really recommend blot.im. I moved over from Wordpress and have really enjoyed it. All files are your own, and the blog is served from Dropbox. If you’re a little techier then GitHub pages is a nice cheap option too. Write.as sounds interesting though!
