I was reading in Deep Work about how your neural pathways are physically “cemented” when you learn something, so you can easily reproduce the action with less effort in future. Perhaps the “less effort” part is the skipping-ahead our brain does, like it already anticipates the outcome. We sort of switch off and really only pay attention if the outcome is different or if there’s a hiccup along the way...
