Lots of people I’ve spoken to this morning are feeling pretty nervous about the news that an Australian visitor—who now has Covid—was walking around so many tourist spots over the weekend…

Michael Bogdanffy-kriegh

yikes! What are your vaccination rates and was the tourist in question vaccinated?

Jess Nickelsen

@mbkriegh our vaccination rates are low—but so are our COVID rates. I don’t know if the person was vaccinated, but because we have a tentative “travel bubble” with Australia (the rest of the world still can’t visit) this is unfortunately going to happen from time to time. Still doesn’t mean we feel that comfortable with it!

Michael Bogdanffy-kriegh

got it. Hope it remains a small anomaly.

Jess Nickelsen

@pimoore thanks - we are still in wait-and-see mode, going into “level 2”, which isn’t a lockdown but there are some restrictions on sizes of gatherings and rules in pubs and things. Hopefully in the next week or so we’ll know how infectious he was.

Jess Nickelsen

@pimoore he’d had one vaccination jab and wasn’t showing any symptoms. He scanned in everywhere he went and looks like he did all the right things. But it’s now looking like we were extremely lucky as no-one has developed any symptoms in the community, only his partner who had also returned a negative test earlier—but they have it now apparently.

@pimoore this was trending for a while… (Reddit link) Made me laugh!
